Summer Internships...Done!

Darrell and I both finished our summer internships this week.  It's crazy how fast they went by!

Darrell was interning at First Choice Home Health & Hospice in Orem.  He worked in the HR department.
This was an industrial/organizational psychology internship.  He worked on a huge project all summer long to determine how much employees should be paid based upon a lot of different factors, such as their credentials and work experience.

He enjoyed his time there and some of the highlights included:
-presenting his findings from the project to the head honcho and his response being: "Okay, we'll do it."
-eating lots of salt water taffy
-intern benefits, such as business lunches and gift cards

On his last day, they invited me to go to lunch with the employees. It was fun to meet all the people I had been hearing about this summer and it was funny because I could just tell these people all loved Darrell SO much. I know he worked hard and is glad he had the experience to do an internship in the exact type of field he one day wants to work in.

I did my internship at the Utah County Health Department here in Provo. I worked in the Health Promotion office and had an emphasis in Injury Prevention.

I was lucky to be able to work on a lot of different projects and get a good taste of Public Health in action.
Some of my highlights included:
-Planning and implementing bike safety activities to elementary students
-Compliance checks
-Observing/assisting at END courses (Ending Nicotine Dependence--basically a class for underage teens who got caught using tobacco)
-Presenting to parents about summer safety topics
-Participating in health fairs...and getting to go to different health fairs

I really enjoyed my internship and getting to know the people in the Health Promotion Office. It was definitely a great experience.
